Social Networking at Work

Time spent on social media platforms has now outstripped time spent on online adult sites. We believe employees should be encouraged to embrace social media platforms and use them at work.

So is the time employees spend on social networking sites at work entirely wasted?

  1. Not entirely wasted at all. Social media is part of the fabric of life. Integrating this into the workplace is simply an extension of who the employee is and allowing them to express this at the workplace.

  2. I beg to differ, time spent on facebook at work is an absolute waste of time. It only would work if the employee is self disciplined and spends limited time on facebook

  3. There has to be a balance in the between personal and business use. There is no doubt that Facebook, Twitter etc... can be a great way of connecting with your customers so why not encourage a happy balance between personal and business use in the workplace.

  4. It's gotta depend on the type of social media right? There's got to be a clear strategy for using social media to build customer and employee engagement. Without a clear set of objectives and execution plan, providing access to social media within organizations has potential to impact productivity, for sure.

  6. For me, if you can define a clear business reason to be using it then it's okay. Otherwise it feels like it could have a negative impact.

  7. If an employer restricts social media why not restrict phone usage, texting and email? All of these are just as likely to be abused in the workplace.

  8. Phone usage, texting and email (non-work) are restricted to some degree, aren't they? Or at least people know the boundaries. Maybe that's part of all this, finding that baseline?

  9. I don't see the difference between restricting personal email at work and Social Networking at work. What about mobile apps like BB messenger, Whats App and texting how do you control those?

  10. I've been at the CGF summit this week and it is clear that we have to embrace social media as businesses or get left behind. How can companies that prohibit use of social media at work truly be embracing it?

  11. I think the most important factor now a days about getting connected to the consumers is the social networking and mostly the productive hours being spent in the office however on my experience the afternoon time have a big impact on visit rate and decision making factors for consumers in making the buying decisions directly leveraged with the people saying about the products and services
